We’re excited to share that Stahla Services was back on the airwaves with Eric Dye on the Enterprise Radio (EPN) podcast! Our Co-owner, Grant Stahla, had another engaging discussion, this time focusing on a uniquely versatile unit in our fleet: the 3-Stall Combo Restroom & Shower Trailer.
It’s always a privilege to discuss how we provide premium comfort, hygiene, and hassle-free solutions for a wide range of needs nationwide. If you couldn’t tune in, we’ve got you covered with all the key insights Grant shared about this highly functional trailer, available from Stahla Services.
What We Discussed: The Unique 3-Stall Combo Trailer
Grant kicked things off by highlighting the special nature of this unit: “Excited to talk about the three stall combo trailer… it’s like the name says it has 3 individual stalls and then it’s a restroom. So there’s a toilet in each stall and a shower.” He emphasized its home-like convenience, stating, “Really, when you’re thinking about this restroom trailer and shower trailer, it’s one that’s most like your bathroom at home.”
Who Needs This Versatility? Usage & Scenarios
This trailer isn’t just a standard restroom; its combined functionality serves specific needs:
- Ideal For: Situations requiring both restroom and shower facilities in private, individual stalls.
- Key Use Cases Grant Shared:
- Renovations & Remodels: “We’re bringing a lot of these trailers to, when they remodel, like a golf course clubhouse and they need to be able to wash their hands and shower and change… they’ll be able to keep that clubhouse going even during a remodel.”
- Emergency Situations: For “emergency water main break or something like that.”
- Campsites & Remote Locations: “We also bring them for camp sites or when they bring in a bunch of campers to any sort of remote facility or location and they don’t have access to showers there.”
- Smaller Groups: “Just a really good trailer for when you need to be able to use the restroom and take a shower and get freshened up and you don’t have a lot of people there.”
Considering a Combo Trailer? Let’s Talk!
Real-World Impact: A Memorable Campsite Story
Grant shared a heartwarming example of the 3-stall combo in action:
- Supporting Youth Camps: “Some of my favorites at a campsite were able to support, like, the Boy Scouts of America rented a 3 stall combo trailer one year… and the campsite didn’t have enough showers. So we were able to bring out this trailer and help to supplement their experience so they could… have a great time with their troop, and not have to worry about showers.” This perfectly illustrates its value in enhancing experiences where permanent facilities are lacking.
Understanding the Investment: 3-Stall Combo Rental and Purchase Costs
Transparency in pricing is key. Grant detailed the figures for this specialized combo trailer rental:
- Purchasing New: Approximately $80,000, depending on options and manufacturer.
- Rental Pricing:
- Weekly: Around $6,850.
- 28-Day Rate: Approximately $9,699.
- 2-5 Months: $7,999 per month.
- 6+ Months: $6,249 per month.
- 18+ Months (1.5 years or more): Around $5,499 per month.
- Potential Add-On Costs:
- Waste Tank Pump Outs: $350 – $500 per service.
- Transportation: $3 – $5 per loaded mile.
- Additional Cleaning/Restocking: $250 – $300 per service.
- Generator Rental:
- Weekend Event: $300 – $400.
- Monthly (20-30kW towable): $1500 – $2500.
- Fresh Water Tank Fill: $200 – $300 per fill.
- Manufacturers: Grant noted several reputable names like Satellite Suites, Jag Mobile Solutions, Lang, UltraLav, Black Tie, and Ameri-can Engineering.
The Rent vs. Buy Decision for a Combo Trailer
The decision to rent or buy often hinges on the duration of need. Grant explained, “Typically it’s gonna be the same cost as a rental between a year and a half and two years of rental. So really, if you have a project that’s two or three years, sometimes it makes sense to purchase.”
However, he also pointed out the responsibilities of ownership: “But then you’re gonna have to manage the asset deal with if there’s any waste tank problems or toilet problems or air conditioner problems, you’re the one that’s fixing it.” For most, “you can just rent it if you’re more of an asset light business model and a company like Stahla Services or a rental company can come and help you out.”
Deep Dive: Design & Specifications of Our 3-Stall Combo Trailer
Grant painted a clear picture of this unique trailer:
- Layout: “There are three individual stalls. So you’re gonna have 3 doors… on the passenger side.” The driver’s side houses the mechanical room for plumbing and electrical.
- Inside Each Stall: A complete private bathroom with a toilet, a small sink, and a shower (approximately 42 inches by 36 inches). “Sometimes there’s a little sliding door that you can pull to make it so that’s the showers can be removed from use… but it’s an individual room, so there’s only one occupant per room at a time.”
- Dimensions:
- Box Length: ~19 feet (23 feet with tongue).
- Width: ~6.5 feet (9.5 feet with individual steps down).
- Height: ~11.5 feet (with A/C unit).
- Tanks:
- Fresh Water: 200 gallons (larger to support showers).
- Wastewater: 600 gallons.
- Water Pump: A “heavier duty, faster flow water pump” to adequately supply the showers.
- Weight & Axle: Approximately 7,000 lbs, typically with one 8,000 lb axle.
The Technicals: Water, Power, and Transportation Essentials
Understanding the operational requirements is vital for seamless use:
- Plumbing: Self-contained with a 200-gallon freshwater tank and a 600-gallon wastewater tank. The robust water pump ensures good shower pressure. All plumbing is accessible via the mechanical room.
- Electrical:
- Summer: “Two connections to 110 Volt, 15 amp, sometimes three connections… It’s a little bit less in the summer because it’s only one air conditioner unit that is powering.”
- Winter: Generally requires four connections (110 Volt, 15 amp) to power electric wall heaters in each stall and the mechanical room.
- Generator Needs:
- Weekend Event: A 7000 Watt generator is usually sufficient.
- Long-Term Use (24/7): A 20 to 30 kilowatt towable generator is recommended.
- Transportation & Setup:
- Towing: Weighs around 7,000 lbs. “You can tow a three quarter ton pick up. You might be able to get by with a half ton pick up.”
- Setup: Features simple, individual pull-down steps for each of the three doors. “They’re fast set up, so it’ll take about 20 minutes to 30 minutes to set up the entire trailer,” barring distant utility connections.
- Availability: “These trailers are built by pretty much all of the manufacturers… so you’re going to be able to buy this trailer from all the major manufacturers.”
